If there's any one thing guaranteed to blow your diet, it's eating out. It really doesn't matter how good your intentions are; going out to eat in a restaurant full of calorie-laden foods is truly a recipe for disaster. Fast food restaurants? They're even worse.

Though eating out, while honoring your diet, can be hard, it is not impossible. With a little will power and a bit of planning, you can eat out and still keep your diet in tact. Read on to learn how.

When you're going out to eat with friends or family, the temptation may be to simply forget about dieting for a few hours. Without question, abandoning your diet in favor of a little fun is appealing, but you're likely to feel very bad later when the reality of all those extra calories hits you. Instead, make sure you're the one to choose the restaurant.

Select an eatery that offers tasty, low calorie, low-fat foods. Once you arrive at the restaurant, choose something tasty, yet low calorie enough to fit well within your diet. While you wait for your food, don't eat the dinner rolls. Think of these rolls as your weight-loss enemy. You'll fill up on them and regret it later when you hit the scale.

Drink water when you eat out. Water fills you up, helping you to eat less, yet it is completely calorie-free. Stay way from sugar-filled soft drinks. They do nothing but help you to pack on the pounds.

Don't avoid dessert altogether. Doing so will only make you feel resentful and envious of your chocolate-devouring friends. Instead, order something as low in calories as possible and offer to split it with someone as your table. No takers? Just ask the waiter or waitress to bring a small portion of the full dessert to the table. This will ensure that you don't overdo it.
