How to Refuse Social Food

Many people on a diet tend to avoid social situations because they don't wish to appear rude when they have to turn food down. However, you don't have to let weight loss turn you into a social pariah! There are many polite and acceptable ways to refuse social food. Diets do not have to restrict your social life any more.

The majority of social eating takes place at restaurants. There are many things you can eat on a diet at a restaurant. Even fast food places are offering more healthy alternatives on their menus. When you're engaged in a weight loss effort and find yourself at a restaurant, one good tip is to avoid excessive carbohydrates. You can order burgers without buns, and choose cottage cheese or applesauce instead of fries for your side order. If you are dining at a traditional restaurant, consider ordering from the appetizer menu rather than the main entrees. You will get smaller portions and still be able to stick to your diet. Also, eat a healthy snack just before dining out to take the edge from your hunger and help curb impulse eating.

Snacking before going out is also helpful when attending parties or get-togethers at other people's homes. If you are on a diet, be sure to let your friends or hosts know before you arrive so they will be more understanding if you refuse food. You may also offer to bring a dish to pass that aligns with your diet when you attend a social gathering. This way, there is sure to be something there you can eat, and you will be sharing as well! It is possible to enjoy social situations while on a diet, without sabotaging your weight loss efforts. Don't let your diet keep you homebound!
