Is a vegetarian diet more beneficial?

(Q) Is a vegetarian diet more beneficial? There may be any number of reasons why people choose a vegetarian diet, such as religion, culture, the influence of family or friends, concern for the environment, food safety issues, and animal welfare, but health reasons remain the most important.

A vegetarian diet is more beneficial because it eliminates all meat and animal byproducts, substituting fruit, vegetables, grains, and, in some instances, limited amounts of dairy produce. The nutritional benefits of iron and calcium can be found in leafy green vegetables, wholegrain bread, dried fruit, and Vitamin C. Cereals and other fortified foods furnish the necessary B12. A vegetarian diet substitutes beans, eggs, lentils, seeds, and grains for meat, poultry, and fish. In addition, certain varieties of nuts and oils included in a vegetarian diet provide the necessary Omega 3 fatty acids that the body requires.

People who are vegetarians live longer. They are far less obese, have fewer heart attacks and coronary artery disease, and lower blood pressure. A vegetarian diet is more beneficial for diabetics and people with a high risk of developing diverticular disease, gallstones, and certain cancers. The digestive system improves with a vegetarian diet, with less gastrointestinal disorders. A vegetarian diet is more beneficial for lowering cholesterol by reducing the amount of fat, saturated fat in particular, and increasing carbohydrates, fruit, and vegetables.

The attitude of society toward a vegetarian diet has changed through the years, as research has proven that a vegetarian diet is more beneficial for overall good health.
